Common questions
Do I need an account?
No. Kitaabi works offline and has no sign-up. If you use iCloud, your progress syncs between your devices.
How do I move my progress to a new device?
If iCloud is on, it syncs. If it isn't, use Settings → Export progress on the old device and Import progress on the new one.
Can I use my own Anki deck?
Yes. In Anki, choose File → Export… → Anki Deck Package. Then import the .apkg file in Kitaabi. You can also import CSV files, Excel files and Memrise exports.
What does the Claude API key do?
The key is optional. With your own Anthropic key, Kitaabi uses Claude to grade your spoken answers on the Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) scale. It also writes new practice passages and example sentences. Anthropic bills your account for this use. The rest of the app works without a key.
Is Kitaabi part of the DLPT program?
No. Kitaabi is an independent app. It isn't affiliated with or endorsed by the Defense Language Institute (DLI), the U.S. Department of Defense or any other government agency.
