License
Kitaabi is licensed to you under Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement. For the app, there are no other terms. This page explains a few things about the app in plain words. Where it differs from Apple's agreement, Apple's agreement applies.
The website
Apple's agreement covers the app, not the Kitaabi website, so these terms apply to the website on their own. You may use the website for your own study. Please don't copy its recordings or content to publish them elsewhere, and don't try to disrupt the site.
The website is provided as is, without warranties of any kind. To the extent the law allows, the developer isn't liable for any loss that comes from using it. The sections below apply to the website as well as the app.
No guarantee of results
Kitaabi is a study aid. It doesn't guarantee any score on the Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT) or any other test, or any rating, job or qualification.
The Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) levels in the app are estimates. Kitaabi works them out from your practice in the app. They aren't official ratings, and they don't predict a DLPT score.
Practice content
Passages, questions and translations are written for practice. The audio is high-quality AI-generated Modern Standard Arabic (MSA), checked and curated. Mistakes can still get through. If you find one, tell us at the address below.
Optional Claude features
Some features in the app, not on the website, use Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic. They work only if you add your own Anthropic API key. Text that Claude writes can contain mistakes. Your use of Claude is between you and Anthropic, under Anthropic's terms, and Anthropic bills your account for it. The Privacy Policy says what Kitaabi sends.
Independent app
Kitaabi is an independent app. It isn't affiliated with or endorsed by the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLI or DLIFLC), the U.S. Department of Defense or any other government agency.
Changes
If these terms change, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date.
